Healing Herbs Flower Essences Help a Mare Bond With Her Colt

A horse named Longstreet Allegra, had just given birth to her colt Adrianna but would only nurse her when she herself was being held—if not, she would try to bite and hind-kick at her newborn, in all appearance trying to kill her. There was clearly an enormous hormonal influence, and the mother was experiencing some extreme emotions. They could never be left alone together as a result, and nursing had to be very carefully approached.

The first set of essences used included Five-Flower Formula, Walnut, Vervain, Holly, Willow, Cherry Plum, Mimulus, Star of Bethlehem, Water Violet, Vine, Sweet Chestnut, and Cerato. A second set of essences was identical except Wild Rose was included in place of Sweet Chestnut.

Melissa, the owner, received the flowers and immediately put the essences into Allegra’s mouth. Within minutes, the mare sighed, and went to Adrianna, licking and nudging her to nurse, accepting & bonding with her. Several people were there and all were in tears at this remarkable transformation.

Allegra & Adrianna, three days old

That night they were able to leave the two alone together, and when Melissa went to check on them she found the mare standing over and protecting her new colt.
