by Richard Katz One of the plants we are so delighted to greet on our High Sierra field trips is Tall Mountain Larkspur. On rocky, nearly treeless terrain, it shines with its vertical vibrancy, populating the high alpine meadowscape. Tall Mountain Larkspur belongs to the intriguing plant family of the Ranunculaceae (Buttercup Family), featuring striking metamorphic growth qualities, which integrate water and air, resulting in unique flower structures. The Tall Mountain Larkspur (Delphinium glaucum) is related the lower growing Larkspurs, such as the FES Larkspur essence Delphinium variegatum. Both challenge the soul to develop leaderships capacities, and to bring the spiritual light of inspiration into practical manifestation.

by Richard Katz Arnica is well-known as a herbal and homeopathic remedy for traumatic injuries, bruises and strains, as it is anti-inflammatory, analgesic and immune-stimulating. Less well known is the Arnica flower essence, which addresses the emotional and energetic aspect of trauma, helping our Higher Self to re-engage with the distressed body to nurture recovery and rebalancing.

by Patricia Kaminski When we hike in the High Sierras during summer, one of our favorite plants to encounter is Cassiope, or White Mountain Heather (Cassiope mertensiana). This lovely earth-embracing low growing plant was beloved by John Muir (explorer and protector of the Sierras) who wrote:

by Patricia Kaminski The beautiful pink Lotus blossoms here at Terra Flora remind us that as we reach for the most exalted spiritual experiences, we must still feel our grounding in the humble muck below the surface of the pond.

by Richard Katz Chamomile is one of our most popular flower essences, calming to the emotions, and especially helpful for babies, children and for many sensitive animals. Many of us know Chamomile as a beloved garden herb. It is a popular relaxing tea, made from the infused flowers. The herbal use of Chamomile dates back to antiquity, as it was known in ancient Egypt and by the Greco-Roman herbalists.

by Richard Katz I was recently hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains and came across a sunny field full of Goldenrod flowers in full bloom. The spikes of golden-yellow composite flowers waved in the wind, a beautiful polarity of the tall upright plants and the vast expanse of gold spread out before my eyes. From this picture, we can get an insight into how it works as a flower essence...

by Richard Katz Fairy Lantern (Calochortus albus), also known as White Globe Lily, is a native wildflower endemic (limited) to California. It is found primarily in the central coastal hills and Sierra Nevada foothills up to 5000 ft / 1500 m. It favors shaded hillsides and rocky slopes, such as road cuts and river canyons, blooming from early to late spring, depending on the habitat and elevation. Fairy Lantern shares the distinguishing characteristics of the Lily Plant Family (Liliaceae): simple linear leaves, perennial bulbs, flowers with three petals and three sepals. It is a member of the Calochortus (Greek for “beautiful grass”) genus, which also includes the Mariposa Lilies and Star Tulips, sharing with these plants the distinctive hairy petals that express the qualities of sensitivity and receptivity. However, the Fairy Lantern is unique within this genus in that its flowers remain in a bud-like state, hanging downward, never fully opening its petals. It seemingly protects its inner sensitive space by closing it off to the outer world.
