Hound's Tongue Uplifts the Thinking into Imaginative Consciousness

As we walk through the woodlands of Terra Flora and our surrounding neighborhood, we are always delighted to find the Hound’s Tongue. This member of the Boraginaceae, family (which also includes Borage, Forget-Me-Not, Comfrey and Lungwort flower essences), earned its folk name because of its proportionally large basal leaves that seem weighted with gravity and resemble the tongue of a dog. This name actually has a real relationship to its essential signature and healing quality.
All of the members of this family speak to the soul’s struggle between gravity and levity. For example, the Borage, with its downward facing blue star flower, speaks to the depressive nature of the human soul, and how that tendency can become transformed. In the case of the Hound’s Tongue, the strong earthly orientation of the flower points to a materialistic orientation within the soul that needs upliftment. Every flower contains a polarity that is in some manner resolved alchemically. In Hound’s Tongue, one notes a striking vertical central shoot, moving away from gravity and into light, with beautiful blue celestial flowers.
Those in need of Hound’s Tongue tend to lack a fluid and flexible imagination, and are unable to “raise” their bodily perception into a higher soul realm. This means that the intellect can be caught in abstraction or dullness, and lose engagement with the inner meaning and moral significance of physical reality. In many ways, this condition is miasmic in our modern age, but particularly affects those who have professional careers in the “hard” sciences, or students who are compelled to cram meaningless facts into a narrow region of brain activity, at the expense of seeing deeper significance, or artistry in such phenomena.
A client who used Hound’s Tongue along with Iris flower essence reported: “I returned back to college in mid-life, and almost dropped out, until I started using these two flower essences. I felt overwhelmed by the courses required for completing my degree. When I tried to study, I felt depleted and uninspired. I just couldn’t inwardly connect to the material, and could not get motivated to memorize meaningless data. When I started taking the flower essences, I found a different way of connecting to the study material that lit up my imagination. Then, that inspired me to speak with a professor about completing some of the requirements with my own self-designed project model. I ended up getting spectacular grades and found a new connection for my future career...”
The affirmation by Patricia Kaminski beautifully captures the healing essence of Hound’s Tongue:
I uplift my sense-bound thoughts.
I perceive the Earthly world in a higher Light.
I use my Thinking to penetrate to the Spirit.
